When ordering glasses online, you may have been asked for your PD, and you weren't sure what it was. "PD" is short for pupillary distance. It's simply the measurement of how far apart your pupils are. Now, you might be wondering why this is important to know when making the lenses for your new glasses. Pupil distance is important because every lens has what's called an "Optical Center." The optical center is the sweet spot on a lens where the prescription is perfect. Because of this, it's important that when lab technicians are making your new glasses, they line up the optical center with exactly where your pupil will be when you put the frames on. This way, the glasses won't be blurry when you wear them since they were made specifically for you.
So how is PD measured? One way is to measure it manually by putting a ruler across your forehead and measuring how many millimeters apart your pupils are. However, this method can be time-consuming and a headache to make sure your measurement is accurate. We have a much easier way to get your PD quickly and accurately. You simply put a standard magnetic card up to your face, take a picture, then our software uses the size of the card as a reference for how far apart your pupils are and gives you your PD instantaneously. To get your PD, select "I need to measure my PD" when you're selecting lenses for your new frames.
